Working out where to stay near Heathrow is one of those trip decisions that seems trivial until you are facing a 6:00 AM departure from Terminal 5. Get it right and you sleep until five and stroll to check-in. Get it wrong and you are standing on Bath Road at half four in the morning wondering whether the shuttle bus is actually coming.
As a born and raised Englishman who has flown in and out of Heathrow more times than I can count, I have stayed at most of these hotels myself. Heathrow has over 20 properties within a two-mile radius, ranging from £45 budget rooms to £300 luxury suites, and the differences between them matter far more than the star ratings suggest.
This guide covers where to stay near Heathrow by budget, by terminal, and by travel situation. For getting into the city once you land, see our Heathrow to Central London transfer guide.

Do You Actually Need to Stay Near Heathrow?
Before working out where to stay near Heathrow, ask whether you need an airport hotel at all. Plenty of visitors book one out of caution and then regret losing an evening to a motorway hotel.
Stay near Heathrow if:
- Your flight departs before 8:00 AM, meaning you need to be at the airport by 6:00 AM
- You arrive after 10:00 PM and do not want to navigate central London transport late at night
- You have a layover of six hours or more
- You are travelling with young children and want to remove the morning transfer entirely
- You are driving to the airport and want a Park, Stay and Go package
Do not stay near Heathrow if:
- Your flight departs after 10:00 AM, since central London is only 45 to 60 minutes away
- You are visiting London for tourism, as you will lose one to two hours a day to travel
- You arrive before 9:00 PM and can go straight to your central hotel
The alternative worth knowing about: stay at Paddington instead. The Heathrow Express runs from Paddington Station to the airport in 15 minutes, so you get airport convenience while actually being in London, with restaurants and pubs on your doorstep rather than a hotel bar overlooking a car park. There are excellent budget and mid-range options nearby — see Paddington hotels.

Which Terminal? It Changes Everything
Heathrow has four terminals spread across a large site, and the single biggest mistake visitors make when deciding where to stay near Heathrow is booking a hotel on the wrong side of the airport.
| Terminal | Main airlines | Best hotel area |
|---|---|---|
| Terminal 2 | United, Air Canada, Lufthansa, Singapore | Bath Road (T2/T3 cluster) |
| Terminal 3 | American, Delta, Emirates, Virgin Atlantic | Bath Road (T2/T3 cluster) |
| Terminal 4 | KLM, Air France, Etihad, Qatar | T4 directly (separate area) |
| Terminal 5 | British Airways | T5 directly |
The good news: the Heathrow Express and Elizabeth Line run free between all terminals, so a hotel at T4 is workable for a T5 flight. Budget 20 minutes plus waiting time, and check first-train times if you are flying very early.
Budget Hotels Near Heathrow (£45 to £120)
Premier Inn Heathrow Bath Road
The most popular budget choice for anyone working out where to stay near Heathrow, and the one I would book myself. Premier Inn’s consistency is the point — you know exactly what you are getting, the beds are genuinely good, and the blackout curtains actually work, which matters when you are trying to sleep at nine in the evening.
- Price: £60-110/night
- Distance to terminals: 5-10 minutes by Hotel Hoppa or taxi
- Shuttle: Hotel Hoppa to T2/T3, around £5.50 single
- Restaurant: On-site Thyme restaurant, breakfast £10.99, dinner £15-25
- Parking: Park, Stay and Go packages from £99/night including 15 days parking
- Check availability: Compare rates — though Premier Inn often has cheaper rates booking direct, so it is worth checking both
Travelodge Heathrow Central
Cheaper than Premier Inn and noticeably more basic. Fine for a single night before an early flight, less pleasant if you are stuck there for a long layover. No free shuttle is the main drawback.
- Price: £50-90/night
- Distance to terminals: 10 minutes by taxi, no free shuttle
- Restaurant: On-site Bar Café, breakfast £6, dinner £10-15
- Check availability: Compare rates — Travelodge also frequently undercuts third-party sites direct
Ibis Budget Heathrow Central
The cheapest option near the airport and priced accordingly. Rooms are around 12 square metres with no tea or coffee facilities, which for British travellers borders on offensive. Book it for the price, not the experience.
- Price: £45-80/night
- Distance to terminals: 10-15 minutes by taxi
- Restaurant: None, vending machines only
- Check availability: See current rates
Mid-Range Hotels Near Heathrow (£100 to £200)
Holiday Inn Express Heathrow T4
If you are flying from Terminal 4, this is comfortably the best answer to where to stay near Heathrow at this price. It sits directly at T4 — a genuine five-minute walk, no shuttle, no taxi, no 4:30 AM anxiety. Breakfast is included, which is unusual at this rate.
- Price: £100-160/night including breakfast
- Distance to Terminal 4: 5-minute walk
- Other terminals: 20 minutes via free inter-terminal train
- Check availability: See current rates
Hilton Garden Inn London Heathrow T2/T3
The strongest mid-range option for Terminals 2 and 3. Modern rooms with mini-fridges and proper coffee machines, and a restaurant that is genuinely better than airport-hotel standard.
- Price: £120-180/night
- Distance to T2/T3: 5-10 minutes by shuttle or taxi
- Restaurant: On-site, breakfast £15, dinner £18-30
- Check availability: See current rates
Novotel London Heathrow
The family pick. There is an indoor pool, rooms are larger than the airport average, and it feels less relentlessly business-oriented than its neighbours. Sits on the northern perimeter road, roughly ten minutes from the terminals.
- Price: £110-170/night
- Distance to terminals: 10 minutes by taxi or Hoppa
- Pool: Yes, indoor
- Check availability: See current rates
Luxury Hotels Near Heathrow (£140 to £300)
Sofitel London Heathrow at Terminal 5
The best hotel at Heathrow, and not by a small margin. It connects to Terminal 5 by covered walkway, so you wheel your luggage from your room to British Airways check-in in about five minutes. Two restaurants, a spa, an indoor pool, and rooms that genuinely feel like a city hotel rather than an airport one.
If you are flying BA from T5 on an early departure and the budget stretches, stop researching where to stay near Heathrow and book this.
- Price: £180-300/night
- Distance to Terminal 5: 5-minute covered walk
- Restaurants: Imperial Dragon and Tea 5, plus a bar
- Pool and spa: Yes
- Check availability: See current rates
London Heathrow Marriott Hotel
A large full-service hotel on Bath Road with spacious rooms, a pool, a gym, and several places to eat. A sensible choice for families or anyone staying more than one night.
- Price: £150-220/night
- Distance to terminals: 5-10 minutes by shuttle or taxi
- Pool: Yes, indoor
- Check availability: See current rates
Radisson Blu Edwardian Heathrow
The most characterful hotel near the airport, with a boutique feel that is genuinely rare for an airport property. Good steakhouse, a health club, and rooms that someone clearly thought about.
- Price: £140-200/night
- Distance to terminals: 5-10 minutes by shuttle or taxi
- Check availability: See current rates
Getting from Your Hotel to the Terminals
Hotel Hoppa Bus
Heathrow runs a dedicated hotel shuttle called Hotel Hoppa connecting most airport hotels to the terminals, roughly every 20 to 30 minutes from about 4:00 AM to midnight.
- Cost: around £5.50 single, £10 return as of 2026
- Payment: contactless or Oyster on board
- Important: not every hotel is on the Hoppa route, so confirm before booking
- Details: Heathrow official site
Free Inter-Terminal Transfer
The Heathrow Express and Elizabeth Line are free between terminals. Hotel at T4 but flying from T5? Take the free train, allow 20 minutes.
Taxi or Uber
- Cost: £10-15 between most airport hotels and terminals
- Time: 5-10 minutes, available 24/7
- Pre-book for departures before 5:00 AM, when Hoppa services may not have reached your hotel yet
For transport once you reach London, see our London Transport Guide.
Park, Stay and Go Packages
Many Heathrow hotels bundle a night’s stay with 8, 15, or 22 days of parking. If you are driving to the airport, this is often cheaper than airport parking on its own.
| Hotel | Package from | Parking included |
|---|---|---|
| Premier Inn Bath Road | £99/night | 15 days |
| Holiday Inn Express T4 | £129/night | 8 days |
| Sofitel T5 | £220/night | 15 days |
How it works: drive to the hotel, stay the night, leave the car in the hotel car park, shuttle to the terminal in the morning, collect the car on return.
Worth it? If you live within driving distance and your trip runs a week or longer, usually yes. Heathrow’s own long-stay car parks run £15-35 per day, so the maths favours the package quickly. Availability varies by season — check which hotels currently offer parking packages.
Our Recommendations by Situation
The right answer to where to stay near Heathrow depends less on budget than on your specific flight.
Terminal 2 or 3 departure: Hilton Garden Inn Heathrow — closest, most modern, reliable.
Terminal 4 departure: Holiday Inn Express T4 — walk to the terminal, breakfast included.
Terminal 5 departure: Sofitel London Heathrow — connected by covered walkway. Nothing else comes close.
Departure before 6:00 AM: Holiday Inn Express T4 or Sofitel T5 — both walkable, so no dependence on shuttles that may not be running.
Tight budget: Premier Inn Bath Road — best value and quality you can predict.
Families: Novotel Heathrow — pool, bigger rooms, less corporate.
Long layover: Sofitel London Heathrow — the spa and restaurants turn dead time into something pleasant.
Driving and parking: Premier Inn Bath Road — best Park, Stay and Go value.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far are Heathrow hotels from central London? Most sit 14 to 16 miles out. The Elizabeth Line or Piccadilly Line takes 30 to 60 minutes, a taxi 45 to 90 depending on traffic. Our Heathrow to Central London guide compares every option on cost and time.
Can I stay at an airport hotel and sightsee during the day? You can, but you will lose one to two hours daily to commuting. If sightseeing is the plan, stay central and use the Heathrow Express on arrival and departure days instead.
Is it safe to walk between Heathrow hotels and terminals? At T4 and T5, yes — the Holiday Inn Express T4 and Sofitel T5 are built for it. From Bath Road hotels near T2/T3, no. There are no proper pedestrian routes and you would be walking beside a dual carriageway with luggage. Use the Hoppa or a taxi.
What time should I leave my hotel for an early flight?
- International flights: be at the terminal 2.5 to 3 hours before departure
- Walkable hotel (Holiday Inn T4, Sofitel T5): leave your room 2.5 hours before
- Using Hotel Hoppa: leave 3 hours before, to absorb waiting time
- Departing before 5:00 AM: pre-book a taxi, as Hoppa starts around 4:00 AM and may not reach you until 4:30
Can I store luggage at Heathrow hotels? Most will hold bags for guests on checkout day. If you are not a guest, use the terminal left luggage service run by Excess Baggage Group, roughly £7.50-12.50 per item per 24 hours.
Which Heathrow hotels have free airport shuttles? Very few are genuinely free. Most rely on the paid Hotel Hoppa at around £5.50 a head, which adds up for a family of four. Factor it into the real cost when comparing — a £60 room plus £22 of shuttle fares for four people is not a £60 room.
Is it cheaper to book direct or through a booking site? For Premier Inn and Travelodge specifically, direct is often cheaper, and I would check both. For the international chains — Hilton, Marriott, Sofitel, Novotel — third-party rates are usually competitive or better, particularly for single-night stays.
